Things To Do Around Town/Area Activities
Springtime is an early-bird-gets-the-worm's delight. Catch a musical or play at The Shane Lalani Canter for the Arts or The Blue Slipper, our local community theaters. Enjoy a well-earned massage or listen to a literary reading from one of our many famous local or visting writers. Art lovers and collectors will find themselves in heaven exploring our town’s 13+ galleries and antique stores. Beat the rush to hot mineral soaks at Chico Hot Springs Resort or for the more adventurous, head down to the Boiling River (just inside Yellowstone National Park's north entrance). Break trail and enjoy the blooms of high alpine meadows and the newborn forest residents.
Summer holds an abundance of outdoor opportunities. Mountain biking, hiking, and camping can be found in every direction from town. If you’re looking for rafting, floating or fishing, one of the world’s most famous flyfishing rivers, the Yellowstone, flows within 4 blocks of our front porch. From its headwaters in the snow-capped peaks of Wyoming to its confluence with the Missouri River in North Dakota, this majestic, expansive, free-flowing river constitutes the longest un-dammed river in the lower 48. Enjoy our weekly farmer’s market in our city park along the banks of the river while enjoying live music. Livingston’s love of music is also apparent in its live, nightly offerings throughout the summer months. If you’re in town on the 4th Friday of June, July, August or September you’ll be treated to Livingston’s Art Walk. You won’t want to miss this incredible opportunity to view works from featured artists in all of the galleries throughout town. The Livingston Roundup Parade takes place every year on July 2… followed by a nightly professional rodeo and fireworks on July 2, 3, and 4. Truly, there’s something for everyone.
Fall brings a more relaxed pace to the mountains. Temperatures can still be warm, so grab a cold one and head to the river for a lazy float or wild, white water day. Hunters will find abundant game within the heavily forested peaks and open meadows. Geocache explorers will discover hidden treasures and stashes scattered throughout the mountains. Test your adrenaline levels while zip lining across mountain valleys and over the tops of trees. Catch glimpses of grizzlies fattening themselves up for the winter months. Hike into the depths of the earth at the Lewis & Clark Caverns. Experience HOOT, Livingston's very own free music festival. Wind down the waning days with wine by the fireplace and outdoor firepits.
We don't know how to say "quit" during the winter months. The legendary cold smoke powder alpine skiing at Bridger Bowl is a quick 30+/- minute drive from our door. Back-country touring is found in all four surrounding mountain ranges with tons of public access. Cross-country skiing can be enjoyed 10 miles away (within the Paradise Valley) or a quick 30+/- minute drive to more established and groomed trails. We have broom-ball, hockey, and figure skating 4 blocks away on the frozen lagoon at Sacajawea Park, one of our city parks along the Yellowstone River. Soaking at Chico Hot Springs (30 minutes south) is also a favorite winter activity (but is also available year round).
