about A Stone's Throw...

Sept 2019

We stayed at A Stone’s Throw on our recent western Montana vacation, it is the nicest B & B we have ever stayed at. We enjoyed our evening conversation with Mick, who was the perfect host. He prepared an outstanding breakfast for us the following morning that included more interesting conversation. This B & B is unique in the fact that it is only 4 years old and was custom designed and built by Mick and his partner for that purpose. The home features multiple sitting areas, an upper level deck and even a porch swing to relax on.
We wish we could have stayed longer and hopefully will return some day.

Dear Mick,

Thank you very much for your warm wonderful hospitality!  Our Montana vacation was truly fantastic in large part due top you, your kindness, and lovely home.  Every night here was relaxing and just what we needed! And can we talk about the breakfasts? To be honest, words escape me... except one...  yummy!  If your travels bring you to Barton, please stay in touch.  We would love to show you around our beautiful city.  Thanks again!

The most spontaneous decisions are quite often the best.

Mick, Thank you so much for hosting us this night.  After 3 days put in the "wild" it was amazing to be welcomed and hosted that fabulously.

We enjoyed every single minute, especially talking to you and learning from your experiences, above all having such a 5 star breakfast-start into this sunny morning.  Whenever you are "back" to Austira, yo uare more than welcome to jump by for some dinner together in Vienna or Salzburg.  Big hugs from two very happy Austrians,

Thomas and Mattias

We stayed at A Stone's Throw for the weekend of my high school reunion. I grew up in the Livingston area, and, in fact, attended junior high on the site where the B & B is located. I was curious and excited about staying there for that, and many other reasons. It exceeded all my expectations!

If you are looking for casual, Western luxury and hospitality, this is your place. Mick and Donald have gone out of their way to carefully create an atmosphere of relaxed, warm comfort, with special touches throughout the home. Large, inviting common spaces invite you to curl up with a book, or contemplate life in the West.

The guest rooms follow suit with top-class comfort. We stayed in the "Peak" guest room, which was more than enough space for two, and the most comfortable bed in the world! Dual-head shower in the huge bathroom. Lockers from the old school's old gym as your bedside table. Quiet relaxation, and a view of Livingston Peak.

And the food? Oh, the food..... Mick asked us our preference for Savory or Sweet, and we tried both on our visit. True gourmet breakfast, absolutely stunning! It kept us fed for the rest of the day :-)

Friendly resident dog Una greets guests, and hangs out in the downstairs common area for pets and cuddles. She knows where she can and cannot go in the house, and is a welcome part of the whole home.

The B & B is conveniently located only a couple of blocks from downtown Livingston, which has plenty of restaurants and watering holes (as well as galleries) to explore. And, it's close to the iconic railroad tracks, an important part of LIvingston's history. You will hear the trains in the distance.

All in all, if you want to be pampered in true Western comfort, look no further than A Stone's Throw. I now have to figure out how I'm going to tell my resident family that I don't want to stay with them - I want to stay at Mick and Donald's B & B! :-)

I was that B&B over my dead body kind of person. A stressful, move your life kind of visit where I envisioned us at a regular hotel. You know, check in, no one knows you, come and go as you please, ice bucket at the end of the hall, mini fridge to stock from the local grocery store, 100 channels to watch when you can't sleep, breakfast optional. Anywhere in Livingston would have been just fine, and friendly is without question in this neck of the woods. But somehow my man said to take the plunge and stay at Stone's Throw after finding their website as we sat thousands of miles away searching the internet trying to find a place to stay for one of the biggest trips of our lives. Take everything you thought about a B&B and toss it out the window (please not literally, it is MT) when you take the short drive from Bozeman airport to Livingston. As someone who has spent and overspent on places to stay all over the West, Mick and Donald's Stone's Throw was the best money I ever gladly put on my AmEx. From the follow up phone call after we booked on line confirming receipt of our down payment and asking about any dietary restrictions or special requests (I am vegetarian and my man is not - always expect I will settle because I don't want to be picky but will spend some time being hungry) to the homemade cookies quietly left for us and family as we went about the day, to the cold glass carafes of water to reach for in the guest fridge after my morning run, I could write for hours about how perfect this place is, but long story short. There is only one place to stay in Livingston if you want to feel as if you have two long time friends looking after you while giving you the space to explore this incredible community. You will sleep in a bed you will talk about for days or months afterwards, shower and not want to shut off the water even though you are naturally environmentally friendly, will stay up talking until the wee hours sitting outside on the deck(s), will start your day's adventure after breakfast prepared by a man who wants you to enjoy your day with a well fueled body who spends his off time devouring cookbooks and planning his next 500 meals, a Stone's Throw will leave you wanting to not leave . . . I know this will sound like one of those paid kind of reviews - it is not and we will gladly talk via phone if you send a message, I just feel strongly about people who make an investment with their hearts and pocket books. Bottom line, these two gentleman will make your next adventure in Livingston something you will remember and tell stories about for many years to come. PS - thanks Donald and Mick, we'll see you on our next adventure.

What a lovely place! Take your shoes off as you enter the door and enter a lovely home filled with interesting art and collections. The hosts were welcoming and entertaining. Our rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated with much attention to details of all our needs. The home cooked breakfast was unbelievable, and beautifully served. It is within walking distance of a quaint little town with interesting shops and great restaurants. We stayed here because we had left Yellowstone and needed to stay somewhere on our way to the Bozeman airport. It was perfect!!!

If you are ever in or near Livingston, MT, I very highly recommend A Stone's Throw Bed And Breakfast. Mick Burlington and Donald Zanoff have built an absolutely beautiful B&B that feels like home but looks like it comes out of Western Art & Architecture magazine. Mick's breakfasts are works of art around which you plan your morning before heading out to explore the great town of Livingston and the many natural wonders nearby. Great place to unwind and visit friends. I must have said "Wow!" about 50 times during my stay every time I saw another part of the place. I had a chance to see all the rooms and they are all beautiful. The Peak Room is my favorite and will be what I reserve for what will now be my annual pilgrimage.

This B&B is only a year old and was built purposefully as a bed and breakfast rather than a conversion from a house. The bedrooms are modern, clean and beautifully decorated Mick, the co-owner of the B and B is an amazing chef among his many other talents. Fresh fruit, bourbon baguette french toast, Cerviche and Andouille sausage for breakfast. This is not your Aunt Jemima pancakes and frozen sausages breakfast.

In addition, Mick knows the area well and recommended wonderful places to eat in town and knows Yellowstone Park and Livingston well.

This beautiful B&B is the perfect combination of modern amenities and western ranch design. It is both immaculate and incredibly comfortable. Mick greeted us on arrival after a 7 hour drive from Glacier National Park and didn't stop taking care of us, from preparing gourmet breakfasts (and accommodating our request for a later service Saturday and earlier service Sunday), sharing restaurant and activity tips, and giving us the lowdown on the town's celebrities. A Stone's Throw is an easy two or three block walk from the center of Livingston and a short drive to the Yellow Stone River Valley, also known as Paradise Valley. We couldn't have conjured up a nicer place to spend the last two nights of our 10-day road trip, and we will return both for Livingston and to stay with Mick!
